A: For now, I don't think you can apply for work study yet because you must have accepted a Financial Aid work-study award for the current year to apply for a work-study job. You will also get more information when you go to the orientation.

Q: When does class start?
A: Class begins on October 2nd, 2014. Be excited!
Q: How many units minimum do I need to take to be a full time student?
A: 12 units with a cap on your first quarter of 19 units.
Q: I want to take more than 19 units! How do I do that?
A: For your first quarter, you are not allowed to take more than 19 units, period. Just do well in your first quarter at UCSC with a 3.0+ GPA and in your second quarter, you can take up to 22 units.
Q: How hard the classes are? And how much time should I expect to put outside of class?
A: It really depends. However, the safe way is to spend about 2-3 hours outside of class per unit or about 10-15 hours (5 units) per week per class. Of course, that number will vary greatly.
Q: What do I need to bring to my UCSC dorm?
A: All the information officially from UCSC can be found at: http://www.housing.ucsc.edu/what-to-bring/index.html and at the thread: https://www.facebook.com/groups/347911525315631/doc/391648577608592/.
Q: What size are the beds in the dorms?
A: Twin XL. Plan accordingly!
Q: Where can I buy my books, clothes, stuff I need?
A: Here are a few sites that you can purchase books aside from the bookstores:
http://www.amazon.com
B) The Textbook Exchange page is a great place to buy books from your fellow Slugs, usually without that stinging slap of bookstore prices. Unless it's a CORE Reader, school published book, or a homework code, definitely check that page first. There is also the Free and For Sale page that you can buy other goodies!
